The Internet Plans Providing the Fastest Broadband Speeds

These internet providers deliver the fastest broadband speeds to their customers, however more expensive prices don't always provide better service.



According to a report of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Optus has the fastest speeds, closely followed by TPG and Extel, Aussie Broadband and Telstra.



The report also revealed that 10% of Australian customers were not getting the speed they had paid for.



Consumers who had plans with lower prices for 12Mbps were more likely than others to get the fastest possible download speeds. On average, 90.4 percent of their maximum speed was achieved.



These are the internet service providers that offer the fastest speeds of broadband to their customers. However the higher cost of broadband does not always mean better service (stock image).

On the other hand, those who had 25 Mbps plans got 88.7%.



All plans scored between 84.3 to 86.6 percent, with Optus scoring the highest at 89.9 percent.

However many high-speed fibre-to the node connections (FTTN) which are considered the best NBN connection type – still aren't as effective as they were advertised.



The results showed that nearly a quarter of consumers with FTTN connections who purchase high-speed 50 100 or 100 Mbps plans did not receive their full plan speeds at all.

Rod Sims, ACCC Chair said that, while speeds have improved in general but he believes that more action is needed to be taken by NBN Co and service providers for retailers to ensure that every consumer can access their full NBN plans speeds.
